How to Start Your Digital Marketing Plan

Where to Start

For most of us, money is an issue, budgets don’t allow for contracting out every single thing for the beginner. This guide is to give you the info you need. We need to talk about :

  • Offers: Opt in offers (the free thing you give away to get a potential customer to join your email list that starts the trust building relationship. Front end offers (the paid thing you send that potential customer to as soon as they’ve shown interest in your free item (you can get quite a few sales for a short video course or ebook this way)
  • Traffic Sources: Free, Paid, Social, Referral, Direct

OFFERS

Your Free Offer needs to be attractive and worth their time and over-deliver on what they expect. You don’t want them to feel cheated…because even though it was free, they spent time.

Your Front end offer needs to be relatively inexpensive: $7 to $27 is a good range for a front end offer. They are immediately redirected to the front end offer after they’ve signed up to accept your free opt in offer. This follows two psychology principles.

  1. The idea that if you can get them to make one tiny decision, they might make another
  2. If they make a small purchase (no money, only spending time), they might also make another small purchase. The same way fast food restaurants ask you if you want fries with that or want to upgrade to a meal.

TRAFFIC

There are tons of traffic sources that can be tapped.

THE KEYS ARE SEO, CONSISTENCY, AND COPYWRITING

  • Free Traffic: This is where SEO (search engine optimization) comes into play. Content is king! So have content. Make no mistake, it’s the most important factor in your digital marketing campaign. THIS IS WHY YOU MUST HAVE A BLOG!!!
  • Paid Traffic: This is exactly what it sounds like…google ads, msn ads, Instagram, linked in, etc. It is instant traffic, but also expensive as hell! You want to start with free traffic until you’ve tested your offers and increased your conversion rates.
  • Social Media Traffic: Exactly what it sounds like: A time consuming process that is very rewarding if done properly…SEO and hashtags are of the utmost importance.
  • Referral Traffic: This is what google and other search engines classify the traffic coming to your site from other sites that aren’t social media or a google search engine. Super important and can be a full-time job in itself. Also SEO prioritized.
  • Direct Traffic: This is usually the traffic that comes to your site from your email marketing campaign.

The Plan

  1. Have the free opt in ready
  2. Have the email marketing campaign set up
  3. Have a blog content plan created with at least 50-60 articles (SEO)
  4. At some point you need your front end offer set up
  5. Create your marketing content beforehand, posts, memes, quotes, pictures, videos, etc. Especially, once you have the blog set up, you can begin sharing your blog posts. Every bit of content you create needs to be SEO optimized as well as include links and references to your site, services, brand, etc.
  6. Create your social media and digital profiles around your brand (facebook, pinterest, Instagram, twitter, youtube, medium, quora, reddit (THOSE ARE YOUR MINIMUMS, there are more that you need to be on as well)

The Strategy

1.You want to write and post at least 10-20  articles to your blog every month. Every article needs to be SEO optimized and include the proper meta-tags, H1 and H2 headers, internal links to other articles on your blog as well as external links to other sites (but not competing sites) Make sure every photo on your site is compressed and has alt-text that is seo optimized for that article.

  1. You want to post your digital marketing content on approx. 20 to 30 different mediums 5 times a day (That’s 100 to 150) individual postings. EVERY SINGLE DAY Example: Your Facebook page is one medium…Posting to your facebook page 5 times a day. Same for Instagram, Same for the other 18 to 28 mediums.
  2. Stay engaged. You need to respond to questions and comments (refer them to your products, provide links, etc.
  3. Create an affiliate program for your paid program. You might offer someone a $10 or $20 or $50 or 5% commission for every paying customer they send to you. Affiliate programs sell your services and products for you.

5.  BE CONSISTENT! AND BE PATIENT! If you lost momentum, you lose money, so don’t stop. It’s going to take a few months for the work you put in to pay off in tangle ways, so be patient. You lay the proper foundation, then the house you build on top is indestructible.
